Scanned Images (Everything you wanted to know but didn't know to ask!) - Photographic prints have a contrast range of about 100 to 1. That is, the most reflective portion of the print (whitest highlight) reflects 100 times more light than the darkest portion (blackest shadow). It is simply not possible to make one sheet of paper that has reflective properties more varied than this. Magazine pages are generally even worse than photographic prints in this regard. Highlights are not very white and shadows are not very black.
Slides have at several times the contrast range of a print. That's because they work by blocking the transmission of light. If the slide is very clear, the light source comes through almost undimmed. In portions of the slide that are nearly black, the light source is obscured.
Computer monitors are closer to slides than prints in their ability to represent contrast. Shadows correspond to portions of the monitor where the phosphors are turned off. Consequently, any light that comes from these areas is just room light reflected off the glass face of the monitor. In a dimly lit room, it is easy to get a 256 to 1 contrast ratio.
Nikon LS-1000 SuperCoolscan film scanner - All FotoImages are shot originally in 35mm film format. They are then scanned at appropriate resolution using a Nikon LS-1000 SuperCoolscan film scanner having a Nikdon SF-100 Auto Slide Feeder attachment.
Type R Prints
Type-R Prints from Slides and Transparencies
Type-R Prints are color prints made directly from a slide or transparency. There is no internegative required for these prints. These prints tend to show more contrast, and more vibrant colors than prints from negatives
Commercial R Prints can be made from any transparency from 35mm up to 4x5. They are density- and color-corrected to our high standards and are normally printed on glossy paper without cropping. Matte finish paper and cropping to borderless print format are available at no additional charge.
Type C Prints
Color Prints from Original Negatives, Copy Negatives, or Internegatives
Color Prints (C-Prints) are made from color negatives. The negative can be as simple as snapshots out of your camera or we can make a composite negative with multiple images, logo, and captions. See Art Info.
Commercial Color Prints can be made from any negative from 35mm up to 8x10. They are density- and color-corrected to our high standards and are normally printed on matte paper without cropping. Glossy finish paper and cropping to borderless print format are available at no additional charge.
