North American XB-70A Valkyrie - This type was first flown September 21, 1964 and was designed as a Mach 3 strategic bomber. Designed to replace the B-52, the program was abandoned due to changes in the Soviet Defense armaments, particularly as a result of the MiG-25 (Foxbat) development. A total of three airframes were built and after cancellation of the program, these continued use as research aircraft. This particular aircraft is located at the USAF Museum, Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio.
