The N3N was the final NAF design to be massed produced serving a Navy role for primary pilot training. Following its first flight in August 1935, A total of 995 a/c of all variants were produced with the N3N-3 being last. The a/c served as a primary trainer from 1938 until 1945 at which time the remaining a/c were declared surplus and sold to civilian operators.
