Me 262A-1A/U3 ME7602 |
The first jet fighter to achieve operational status, the Me 262 suffered from Hitler's meddling in war planning. Arriving too late to have any impact on the outcome of WW2, the fighter was still far superior to anything in the Allies arsenal. Most combat losses occurred when the a/c was in its most vulnerable phases of flight - take-off and landing. Of 1,433 completed, about 200 saw operational duty.
