The H-1 was the first a/c developed and produced by the Hughes Aircraft Co. The a/c was a single seat racer developed specifically to compete in the Bendix and Thompson trophy races. On 3/September/1935, Howard Hughes set a world speed record in the H-1 of 352.388 mph. The a/c shown here is an exact replica built using the original detailed drawings. As such, it might be considered the second production a/c of this type. This a/c set a Class 1c world speed record on 12/September/2002 at Reno, NV of 354 mph, while operating with a mal adjusted prop governor that allowed it to develop only about 60% full power.
