The staple medium bomber of the Luftwaffe throughout WW2 more than 5400 a/c were eventually manufactured. Based on the He 70 Biltz airliner, the He 111 made its first flight on 24/Feb/1935. In 1941, Spain acquired a license to build the He 111H-16, eventually making 236 in a production run that ran until 1956 with the last 100 being fitted with RR Merlin engines (CASA 2.111B/D).
