Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger |
[BACK]
|
Designed as a replacement for the Douglas TBD Devastator, the TBF features a large deep fuselage capable of internally carrying what was then the Navy's largest (22 in.) torpedo. Rushed into production the TBF was deployed in every major engagement in the Pacific from Midway on. During its entire production life, the a/c changed little from its initial design allowing for the rapid production of 9836 over a short three year span.
