The Bearcat was the last of the piston-engined fighter designs from Grumman and incorporated all the experience learned by the US Navy in the first couple of years of Pacific combat. The a/c was on the verge of being combat deployed when the war ended, but remained in service through late 1952. Surplus a/c were sold to the French and Thai air forces where the a/c saw combat in Southeast Asia.
