Although looking like an enlarged Airacobra, the P63 Kingcobra was in fact a new design. An enlarge fuselage with semi-laminar flow wings and a more powerful Allison engine provided the a/c with better performance in all flight regimes to the P-39. Arriving on the scene after the P-51, P-38, and P-47, the P-63 was quickly relegated to the lend-lease program with most examples going to Russia.
