The L-16 was the last variant of the series being powered by a Continental O-205 replacing the O-170 of the O-58/L-3 models. Used extensively in all theaters during WW2, this liaison/observation a/c was a derivative of the civilian Model 65 that became the 7BC Champion after the war. A total of 1430 a/c of all models were manufactured before production ended in 1994
