The Hurricane was the first RAF monoplane fighter entering service in December 1937. Though eclipsed by the Spitfire it still out numbered this type by a factor of 3 to 1 during the September 1940 Battle for Britain and is credited with downing more Luftwaffe a/c. When production ceased in Sep/1943 a total of 14,670 a/c had been delivered.
